pH is a pollution problem to aquatic organisms sensitive to low pH (acidic). The pH affects the reproductive portion of the growth cycle in these sensitive organisms. Algal blooms, leaf liter and industrial processes cause fluctuations in the pH level.
Mussels are very sensitive to low pH. Litmus paper can be used to test pH.
