ACCESSING VALUE ADDED TARGETS IN DATAMAP

Before accessing this information in DataMap, it is important to understand that we are creating targets. We have worked with and analyzed the data as thoroughly as possible, but we are not, in the end, the keepers of the Value Added gate. Those keys rest in the hands of our friends in Columbus.

View this information for what it is: A very educated guess, information to be used to assist us in our quest to move beyond just pass/fail on the OAA and into the realm of growing every single student.

NEVER let the target scores be confused with RESULTS. Every piece of data we gather and deliver is the result of the incredible job you do with every moment you spend in your classrooms, and the data is skewed by the great work that you do. The data is based on the results of your past students and it is important to realize that they are based on what happened in students' lives that year, the teaching that went on in your classroom, and the intervention that went on outside of your classroom. Take any part of that work away, and the data becomes inaccurate.

The first thing you should notice on the Value Added Projections screen is the addition of two fields labeled "Target."

These fields display the OAA score that correlates to the state's "Projected NCE" score for the student (this is the score the state says the student must meet in order to show a year's growth (make Value Added)), and the Pro-Ohio B test score that a student must statistically make or exceed in order to have a high probability of meeting the target OAA score.

Note the +/- column following the OAA target score. This shows the difference between the student's 2010-11 OAA score and the target score given by the state.

Lastly, note that you can click column headers to sort by name, target POB, target OAA or growth columns.
