    Principal’s Message – October 2, 2014

    What a great start to school we have had!It has happened very quickly.

    The State of Ohio has released the OAA data from the May 2014 administration, we are proud of the results. Spaulding Elementary School continues to perform at a high level with the staff and students achieving a 105.3 performance index for the 2013-14 school year. This year we will continue to look at the data we have and use it to determine ways to improve our delivery of instruction to all students.

    This year Spaulding will be focusing on doing the things that make our students great. Our staff has been using time before school to meet and discuss goal setting. Our building will be focusing on helping our students demonstrate high levels of academic performance on the new learning standards, support their preparation toward college and career readiness, teachers engaging in professional learning communities, provide many technology use opportunities, and continue to host our parent – student activities. As you can see, we have a lot in store for this year with one primary focus—preparing our students to be their very best.

    With the beginning of October, we are ready for a whole new list of activities – please read more below:

    OAA Awards Assembly—October 3rd

    Lets’ celebrate the hard work and success of our students!!!! At the end of the day our students will be treated to a celebration of Minute to Win it Games and recognition of their results on last year’s OAA. We are so proud of how hard they worked. We will welcome back our 6th grade students to join and be recognized for their efforts.

    3rd Grade Reading OAA-October 7th

    We wish our 3rd grade students the best of luck and we are confident they will do their very best. Next Tuesday, our third grade students begin the process of showing what they know. They have spent a lot of time preparing for this big day and can’t wait for them to show what they know.

    Homecoming Week—Oct 6- 10

    What a great time of year around Goshen. The air is turning cooler and the leaves are turning colors. That must mean Homecoming. SES will participate in the fun and festivities by recognizing the following themed days:

    Monday- Pajama Day

    Tuesday- Twin Day

    Wednesday- Wacky Wednesday

    Thursday- America Day

    Friday- Red and Grey Day

    Muffins with Mom –October 15th

    Remember to turn in your reservation form for Muffins with Mom, which is on October 15th at 7:40 AM. Parents, grandparents, and other relatives are welcome to visit and/or volunteer. Calling all dads!--if you are willing to help out, please sign up.

    Fundraiser Limo Lunch–October 16th

    Teacher Inservice Day –No School for Students—October 17th

    October 17th marks the end of the 1st quarter—that happened fast!!! It’s day off for students—enjoy your time off students and prepare for a great 2nd quarter of working hard on those academics. Teachers will be at school working on curriculum and preparing for great lessons with our students.

    Racing into Reading---Right to Read Week October 20th ---October 24th

    Author Visit—October 23rd-Parent/Community Presentation--6PM in the SES gym

    This year for Right-to-Read-Week, Spaulding Elementary welcomes Cynthia Lord as our author.Mrs. Lord has written many books which include Rules:which won the Newberry Honor Award, Touch Blue, and Hot Rod Hamster, among many others.She will be presenting to our students the steps that go into writing a book, while using the writing process.She will discuss her books and steps that helped her become a writer.Mrs. Lord will also be doing a night presentation. We are very excited to have her at our school!

    Book Fair—All Week

    What a great way to help your child pursue the love of reading. Book Fair will take place during this week to help support student interest in reading.

    Grand Parents' Lunch

    During Right to Read week we also honor our grandparents. We invite grandparents to lunch with their grandchild. After lunch you may visit our book fair. Due to limited space, no more than two grandparents can attend each day per grandchild. If there are more than two, you are welcome to attend another day. Information will be coming home soon.

    Report Cards Go Home—October 24th
