First day of school pictures can be tough when everything is so new! But Rolyn, Goshen's newest facility dog, finetuned his smile and captured the hearts of his new friends at Spaulding Elementary.

Rolyn is an almost 3-year old golden retriever from Circle Tail. He spent his puppy life training to be a facility dog and now he will help our Spaulding students with their physical, emotional and cognitive needs throughout the school day. Rolyn’s first day at Spaulding was Oct. 26, and he will have a 90-day internship.

He will be learning the rules, boundaries and expectations of our school with this host Hannah Woodall. For the first two weeks Rolyn will be with his host. Ms. Schlosser, SES assistant principal, Mrs. Regan, SES counselor and Ms. Wenzel, SES intervention specialist, will be his other handlers throughout the school day.

After his first two weeks of orientation, Rolyn will then be able to gradually visit classrooms throughout the building. This will be a learning period for the dog as well as our staff and students. As Rolyn grows more comfortable with his job, he will be able to visit more classrooms and work with individual students that may need his support.

When he completes his internship, Rolyn will join Artis (GHS) and Meg (GMS) as Goshen facility dogs.
