Goshen Local Schools recently received an award from Ohio Auditor of State, the seventh year in a row for such recognition.

Auditor of State Keith Faber recently accepted an independent auditor’s report of Goshen Local Schools prepared by Perry & Associates CPAs for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023. This audit covered all the district’s finances including operations, employee compensation and benefits, and internal controls.

The audit had no comments or findings, prompting the Auditor’s award.

“I cannot say enough about our great team and their aim to be good stewards of our taxpayers’ dollars,” Goshen Treasurer Todd Shinkle said. “We appreciate the recognition from the Ohio Auditor and we pride ourselves on operating in fiscal responsible way every day.”

This attention to scrupulous accounting practices has additional benefits to a school district, according to an industry expert.

Heather Arling, director at Bradley Payne Advisors, said Goshen’s clean audits save taxpayer dollars over the long term.

“When an organization consistently has clean audits, it means they are fiscally responsible with the public funds they manage,” she said. “This is important for many reasons, one being the district’s credit rating. Similar to a personal credit score, the district’s credit rating influences the cost for capital projects.

“With Goshen’s high credit rating of Aa3, they will have a lower borrowing costs when compared to a lower rated District.”
