The Goshen Board of Education met in a special session on Monday, Dec. 4 to reduce the millage request that will appear on the March 19, 2024 ballot.
Last month, the Board voted 5-0 to seek approval of a 3.9 mill bond issue to raise $26 million for the construction of classrooms at three district buildings.
But after receiving new county valuation numbers from the Clermont County Auditor’s office this week, the millage amount necessary to raise $26 million has dropped to 2.9 mills.
This means the March 2024 bond issue would cost approximately $8.50 per month for the owner of a home with a market value of $100,000.
“As a board and administration, our goal all along has been to present a fiscally sensitive and responsible Phase 1 plan to taxpayers,” Bailey said. “Our Board worked quickly to take advantage of this reduction in millage and we will continue to work hard to get the classroom space we need, while being responsible with our community’s tax dollars.”
The Board will take final action on a resolution on Monday, Dec. 11 for the bond issue request to appear on the March ballot. This bond issue would fund the construction of the first of two phases to address enrollment growth. Phase I would be the addition of 14 classrooms at Goshen High School, 10 classrooms at Goshen Middle School and 10 classrooms at Spaulding Elementary, along with campus safety and traffic improvements.
